President Rouhani in a message on the occasion of August 8, celebrated the memory of the martyred reporters and congratulated National Reporter's Day.
Hilighting the role of reporters in conveying realities to the people quickly and truly, the president described reporters as 'alive conscience and awake eyes' of the society in its path to growth and prosperity.
President's message reads that responsible reporters are actually reliable and friendly advisors to the senior officials and executives of the country.
President Rouhani also called on the Ministry of Culture and the Islamic Guidance and the Ministry of Labor, Social Welfare and Cooperatives to provide support for the reporters and pledge to remove their financial difficulties and give them more professional freedom.
National Reporters Day marks the martyrdom of IRNA correspondent to Afghanistan Mahmoud Saremi 17 years ago, 8 August 1998, in the northern Afghan city of Mazar Sharif. He was killed in a terrorist attack by the Taliban when they occupied the Iranian consulate in Mazar Sharif, together with eight Iranian diplomats.
